Symbolatry - The Worship of Symbols

You could say that I worship symbols, at the very least you could say I am fascinated by symbols. I like the idea of a mystery in plain site. Remember the book The DaVinci Code? Well, that book is what got me started on this journey around symbols. While not everything in the book is accurate it still planted a seed of an idea, maybe there was more to what we see then what we think. This got me started on a quest to find out more about symbols buried in art, what I found was a rich history of symbology going back 30,000 years to the paleolithic period in Eastern Europe. People weren’t just painting on cave walls but they were also creating a rich dictionary of geometric symbols, 32 unique symbols to be exact. Paleo-anthropologist Genevie von Petzinger has the esteemed job of cataloging and researching geometric symbols found in caves around the world.

Personal symbols

Sometimes I get so immersed in a process I forget to share what I have completed. If you don’t know me then you don’t know how passionate I am about symbols, history of symbols, symbols in art….symbols, symbols and more symbols. In my art I have created a visual dictionary that is an ongoing process, below are some of the symbols I use in my work.

I just got a new book by Genevieve von Pentzinger who is a anthropologist studying prehistoric geometric symbols. It’s fascinating! You can see her TEDTalk <here>.

A painting looking for a home

Well, lets be honest, most of my paintings are looking for their forever homes. But this painting is giving me the feels and I love it. I haven’t picked a name yet, had some people on Facebook suggest some good ones though so it’s all looking good. This piece is a 36” x 36” mixed media on cradled board and is $1,300 with free shipping in the USA. If you are out of the country I can still ship to you but you will have to pay any shipping costs, tarriffs, etc.
